18 month checkup at 22 months

I said in this update that we didn't make the 18 month doctor visit so here's technically the 18 month update although he was 22 months old...don't judge. I had good reason to not take him to the doctor in the middle of flu season. And I stick by my decision!

So last week we finally made our 18 month check up. Beckham at 22 months weighs 28 lbs and 6 ozs (75%), he is 34 inches tall (50%), with a head circumference of 19.5 (90%). His pediatrician was happy he was back in 75th percentile weight range since he had been in 50th for so long. She is still pushing for us to switch to whole milk, but his stomach just can't handle it. It's no fun, and not worth it in my opinion. He's not a skinny baby- he's all muscle. Beckham is seriously talking up a storm. He now says 4 or 5 word phrases. His favorite phase has got to be "Sit Mama's lap, play phone." Seriously, he could/would play on my phone for hours if I let him. And the sad funny thing is he's usually watching videos of himself. My favorite thing that he says is, "What's that about?". It's so cute. Speaking of cute, he loves to show me random things like blocks, puzzle pieces, etc. and say "Awww cuuttee!". He also loved to wear sunglasses, or any glasses actually and look at himself in the mirror and say, "too cute". I've given up trying to count how many words he says, however he has a book of 101 first words and he knows every single one (and it doesn't have most of the words that he says), so I'm guessing he knows around 200-300 words total. Our pedi was shocked when he said "sit Mama's lap, play phone" while we were in her office. She said that was a 3 year old phrase.

Although he does so much beyond his age, we are having a few issues. Namely, his bed and potty training. First of all his bed- he officially hates it. I have NEVER been one to put him in our bed, we would play in the bed but never lay down for bedtime in there. However, he wakes up like clockwork around 12:00 every night crying and saying Mama a million times. I put him in our bed the first few times and now it's an every night occurrence. I. Don't. Know. What. To Do. He usually falls asleep watching TV in the living room, so I'm thinking when he wakes up in a different place he is scared. I honestly don't know. I'm just trying to rationalize an almost 2 year old. So, we put a big bookcase with a TV and DVD player in his room and I am hoping that will help and he will want to stay in his bed. I think it's a little early to transition to toddler bed, and then I am dealing with the whole -stay in your bed- issue. I'm not ready for that!

Now to the potty issue. Okay so, he HAD a lot of interest in the potty, he even went 6 nights in a row using the potty before his bath, so I thought it was time to try to potty train. I set aside a few weeks to stay home and have some consistency. I bought all kinds of underwear, pull ups, a potty seat, all of it. We talked about how the underwear were different from diapers and big boys wore underwear. We talked about how if needed to use the potty he needed to tell me and not go in his underwear. The first day he did great. We only had two accidents and before his bath that night he used it before his bath. The next day he would have nothing to do with it. That morning I said, "let's go try to use the potty" and he said, "no". I kept asking if he wanted to go try and he kept saying no. UGH! So, I have no idea what to do about that either. I don't want to force him because he is still young, but I don't understand how we had a good first day and from then on he wants absolutely nothing to do with the potty. At. All. I'm at a loss. Therefore, we are holding off on potty training for a while, hopefully in the next few weeks he will show interest and we can make it his idea to use the potty. I just hope it's before I go back to work in August.

That's pretty much all we've been dealing with lately. He completely runs the show around here. It's undeniable. Monday we are getting his playhouse- which is an early birthday present. I'm so excited about it and can't wait to see his face when it's all put together. I opted to get it early so that we can play with it all summer and we'll have it for his birthday party. Speaking of birthday party, of course I am in full-on planning mode. I can't wait. But, I also can't believe he is about to be 2! WOW! It seems like a month ago I was planning his first birthday. :'( Anyways, that's what has been going on around here lately.

Move it Monday

Wow! I can't believe June is gone and July is here in my face already! It is so beyond hot here in Louisiana! Like the temperature is fluctuating from 95-100 just about every day. It is always hot during the Summer but this year is scorching; and the humidity....UGH! The air is so thick it's hard to breathe. I am almost positive I was way more miserable last Summer because I was 9 months pregnant, but this Summer I am chasing an 11 month old that runs.....fast. Speaking of that 11 month old, I have been planning Beckham's 1st Birthday for what seems like his whole life. But it is so close now! I literally have all of these thoughts in my head but I still have so much to do. Like: cover water bottles and juice boxes with labels, make cupcake paper wraps, make banner for tent and for his highchair, make envelopes for invites, send invites (I'm thinking by the 8th), make 28649240 stickers, food labels, goody bags, print tags for thank yous, print tags for sugar cookies, order cakes, cupcakes, cookies, tshirts......ahhh the list goes on and on. BTW those are the things that can be done in advanced, I'm not even going to think about the list of things that need to be done both Friday, and the day of the party. Twenty days, Katie. You still have 20 days until his party...... okay, I'm better.

Anyways new topic- This is kind of random but Beckham has a new found fear of the diaper genie. Yes, the small white, tube shaped, contraption that keeps the house from smelling like poop haha! I don't know what has gotten into him but he is completely afraid of it. Last night while I was putting on his pjs, (I lay him on the floor to do the whole diaper, powder, lotion routine) he kept scooting away from it and making the saddest face like he was scared. So, I hurried to get him dressed and he jumped in my arms and wrapped his arms around my neck. He kept turning his head looking at it then looking at me, them back at it, and then back at me. There's a Scooby Doo stuffed animal that sits right beside it and at first I couldn't tell if he was looking at it or the diaper genie; so, I picked him up and kind of put him near the genie and he lifted his legs up almost to his neck and was truly afraid. I opened the lid a few times and kind of tapped on it so he would see that it wouldn't hurt him, but he wasn't having it. I am really blown away by this because he is honestly not afraid of much at all. He would jump off of any surface imaginable (the bed, coffee table, couch, etc.) if we would let him. He loves to ride the lawn mower and our Polaris Ranger, loves the pool, and with the exception of the vacuum (he's not a fan of it) there isn't much he's afraid of. I guess I'll have to add the diaper genie to that short list, at least for the time being. It's still driving me crazy though. It's been in his room, in the same spot, his entire life, and he's just now noticed it? I'm at a loss.

So there's that.

Move it Monday-
I managed 3 work outs this week. Wednesday I burned 245 calories, Thursday I burned 350 calories, and Friday I did a Zumba class so I'm not sure how many calories I burned but I definitely feel it. I lost 1.6 lbs this week.

First day of Summer

Written 6/22/13
Yesterday was the official first day of Summer so I thought it was time for an update on our To Do List. I talked about some different things I wanted to do with Beckham this Summer in this post so here's what we've been doing. We have gone swimming, a lot; which I knew we would because Grami has a pool. He ate one of those little chocolate dipped ice cream cones and LOVED it. He made a huge mess because he started at the cone, but it was still precious. I bought this little sprinkler mainly because it was Mickey Mouse, and only $8.00 and when I got it, it definitely reflected the price because it is somewhat cheap looking. I guess you get what you pay for, but it's still functional and Beckham liked it okay. He didn't really know what to do with it because it spins pretty fast and shoots water up really high. Anyways, long story short, we played in the sprinklers. We have also had sno-cones quite a few times. Beckham's favorite is green apple, I have no idea why but he loves it. He wasn't crazy about bubblegum, which I thought was weird because most kids love anything bubblegum. My all time favorite sno-cone flavor is wedding cake....I get it from my Mama. Haha! With Daddy being home Beckham and I both tend to stay up a little later than usual. But, last week Beckham was just not ready for bed, one night he stayed up until 11:30. I was like, really, it's time for bed child. It also just so happens that this morning he woke up at 3:00a kind of coughing/choking. It was scary. He had a hard time getting back to sleep but finally went back down around 5:00a. It has been a long day already. We have plans in the works to go see Yaya and Grumpy over the Fourth of July, they live on the lake, and have a boat. So, hopefully we will get a few more things marked off. I have already taken a lot of pictures, but I'm not marking that one off yet, and we've technically already watched a baseball game (on TV) but that's cheating so I'm not marking that one off yet either. I already talked about getting Beckham's 1 year old pictures made and here are some very low resolution proofs.

In hindsight I wish I would have asked the lady that made the cake not to use red around the edges. Naturally, Beckham grabbed the red icing first and it kind of reminds me of a vampire.  But, they are still cute.

Life lately

Birthday party planning is in full force! We are scheduled for 1 year pictures this weekend and I am seriously starting to get excited!!!!
Daddy is home so we are enjoying spending time with him!
Beckham has a newfound obsession with the lower cabinets in our kitchen so we had to baby proof everything today. It's just a matter of time before he realizes how to open them, but for now he is leaving them alone!
Today I....
Slept late- Beckham slept until 11... Yeah I have the best baby ever! Well technically he woke up at 7 but then went back to sleep so, yeah, I'll take it!
Cooked brunch and had some of Butch's fabulous homemade plum jelly!
Played outside, in the dirt, no less! We are trying so hard to grow some grass and it's actually coming in pretty good but of course Beckham wants to play in the spots where it's not growing! Go figure! He's definitely all boy!
Had a mani-pedi! It was so nice to get out and relax for a bit by myself! Plus, my nails and toes look very cute & match! :)
Cooked chicken fajitas & yellow rice for supper.
Stayed up late and blogged....ha!

Here's the usual photo dump:
